Dr. Kevin McCarthy

Senior Pastor

Dr. Kevin McCarthy began serving as Senior Pastor at Britt David Baptist Church in July 2026. His heart for ministry has been shaped by approximately 15 years of serving the local church, including churches in Florida, Tennessee, and Kansas before coming to Britt David Baptist Church. He completed all of his education through Liberty University, and his life experience also includes more than 25 years in secular work as a boat builder for two major boat manufacturers.

At the center of Dr. McCarthy’s ministry is a deep love for the Word of God and a genuine care for people. He is passionate about preaching and teaching Scripture in a way that points people to Christ, encourages believers in their walk with the Lord, and helps the church family grow together in faith, unity, and service.

Dr. McCarthy is known for his joyful spirit and genuine love for the Lord. His warm and encouraging presence reflects a heart of faith, and he approaches both ministry and everyday situations with grace, optimism, and a desire to point others to Christ.

Dr. McCarthy and his wife are blessed with two adult daughters and are grateful for the privilege of serving the Lord and the Columbus community through Britt David Baptist Church. Outside of ministry, he enjoys spending time with his family, being outdoors, and maintaining fish tanks.

sEAN hEGGOOD

Worship PAstor

Sean was born in San Pedro, California, before moving to Georgia at a young age. At 17 years old, he answered God's call to serve, becoming actively involved as a youth choir director, orchestra coordinator, and sound technician. Sean earned a Bachelor of Music in Orchestral Performance from Georgia State University and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. With nearly 36 years of fulltime ministry experience, Sean has faithfully served in six churches and joined Britt David Baptist Church in 2019. His greatest joy is leading God's people in worship and encouraging believers to glorify Christ through music and praise.

Sean and his wife, Cindy, have two daughters, Megan Heggood and Katelyn Crunkelton, who is married to Matthew. They are also proud grandparents to their grandson, Sawyer. Cindy serves alongside Sean in ministry by singing alto in the choir, singing and playing keyboard in the praise band and playing the saxophone. Professionally, she is the Literacy Coach at Mathews Elementary School.

Sean's passion is to see men, women, boys, and girls joyfully lift their voices in worship to the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He believes that worship is more than music—it is a lifestyle of honoring God and proclaiming His greatness.

LYDIA LIX

Children’s Ministry Director

Lydia Lix was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, where she was surrounded by the love of Christ and the faithful ministry of the local church. As the daughter of a pastor, she grew up serving alongside her family through youth and children's ministry, church events, and various mission opportunities. These experiences shaped her heart for ministry and ignited a lifelong passion for investing in the lives of children and helping them experience the love of Jesus.

Lydia earned a Bachelor of Science in Counseling Psychology and Bible and Theology from Toccoa Falls College before completing her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Troy University. She works full-time as a licensed therapist and certified play therapist at LifeWorks Counseling Group, where she has the privilege of walking alongside individuals and families with compassion, wisdom, and a Christ-centered perspective.

Lydia's greatest joy is creating opportunities for children to know Jesus, build meaningful relationships, and grow in their understanding of God's Word. She believes children are not only the future of the church but an essential part of the church today. Her passion is to partner with families and the church community to nurture the next generation, helping children develop a lifelong relationship with Christ and faithfully pointing them to the hope, truth, and love found in Jesus.
